Healthy Low Carb Diet

Low carb dieting is all the rage, but in recent years as people have learned more about low carb diet plans, they have received some bad press. But believe it or not, there are some healthy low carb diets out there.

A Healthy Low Carb Diet
There are some low carb diets that are not very healthy at all, but there are others that are. The South Beach diet is a healthy low carb diet that emphasizes good carbs instead of bad, but it still cuts out too many carbs. The Atkins diet has even become more of a healthy low carb diet in recent years. It now emphasized healthier low carb diet foods like lean meats instead of fattier ones. It also places more emphasis on exercise than it used to. Those are good signs of a healthy low carb diet. Anne Collins doesn't cut carbs so drastically either. Instead of the standard 20 grams of carbs a day during the first two weeks, Anne Collins suggests 30 grams a day. Then after that, you get 55 grams a day until you've lost the weight you want to lose. That's still not enough, but it's better than most.

The best way to enjoy a healthy low carb diet is to count your current carb intake. We can make it pretty simple. First, count the amount of carbs you eat each day for a week. Don't switch to low carb diet food just yet during this week. Just eat the way you normally would. You'll probably find that you eat anywhere from 200-300 grams of carbs a day. But your body only needs 130 grams of carbs a day. So cutting back to 130 grams of carbs a day from whatever your current carb intake is is a low carb diet plan in and of itself. The best way to do this kind of low carb diet is to watch your portion size of complex carbohydrates, and avoid foods made with white flour or refined sugar. All you have to do is switch from white bread to whole wheat or whole grain bread. The same goes for crackers. Also, instead of regular pasta, try whole wheat pasta. Instead of white rice, eat brown rice. Cut back on potatoes if you eat a lot of them now. And finally, cut out all desserts, sugary drinks and other sugary foods. When you have a sugar craving, eat some grapes or an apple with peanut butter.

Your weight loss won't happen as fast on this type of healthy low carb diet, but it will happen. And if it happens slow, so what? It's going to stay off longer that way. And if you exercise, that will help.
