Let's talk about a low carb diet ...

A high carb diet is one thing that can cause people to be overweight. Shopping for a low carb diet? That's good. But trying to do a low carb diet based on what you think is the right way to do it can have disasterous results.

See what we mean?

It's important to learn about a low carb diet plan.

Low Carb Diet Information

When you're shopping for a diet, you'll notice that some low carb diets are more like no carb diets because of the amount of carbs you're allowed--or rather, not allowed to have. Almost all of these diets restrict the amount of carbs you can have each day to only 20 grams. Considering that your body needs 130 grams of carbs a day to function properly, and most of us eat far more than that, that can be quite an adjustment--and a long two weeks!

After that, the more restrictive low carb diet plans (like Atkins, for example) only allow you 60 grams of carbs a day until you achieve the weight loss you want to achieve. That's still just under half of what you actually need. (The primary reason you need 130 grams of carbs a day is so your brain has the glucose it needs to function. Carbs are the only nutrient that make it to the brain. Plus they fuel the rest of your body as well.) This would be the reason why we recommend low carb diet plans.

Forget staring at that scale in sadness. Thanks to low carb diet food, you'll be happy with how you look.

Cutting carbs this much sends your body into a fat burning state called ketosis, which has side effects that include headaches, bad breath and nausea. In addition, you don't get enough vitamins, minerals and fiber because you don't get enough fruits and vegetables. You also run the risk of heart disease because of the amount of saturated fat that's allowed in this kind of low carb, high protein diet.

Other plans (like South Beach, for example) focus on changing the kinds of carbs you eat. This is more of a safe low carb diet. Instead of eating refined sugars, foods made with white flour and sugary juices and sodas, you eat lots of fruits and vegetables and foods made with whole wheat or whole grains. Throw in lean meats, and a little calcium, and you have yourself a well-balanced, healthy low carb diet.

Just remember, enjoy these foods in the proper portion size for sucess.
